‘Midnight Billabong’ is part of a new series of work for 2017 called “Billabong”. After a wonderfully relaxing stay at Billabong Retreat west of Sydney I decided to create a series of works on paper based on the feelings I had (very Zen) together with the landscape. This was the work created on site at the retreat. It was unintentional, however, this artwork turned out to have an oriental feel. Together, the gold lilies with that midnight blue is so typical of Hamptons style art.
This work depicts waterlilies dancing in the moonlight with distant lights reflecting on the water. Layers of watercolour and ink give the water movement and depth. The waterlilies have been done in gold a further nod to an oriental artwork. A bold injection of a deep coral red to play on those sunset tones. A lovely grand size – A1, to really make your coastal styling punch.
